Waiting for the sixth trophy: Brazil's World Cup chances

Brazil are the most successful team in World Cup history, winning the title five times. They are nicknamed 'pentacampeons', or ''five-time champions''.

"We begin our journey together for the sixth title and joy for our people", Vinícius Júnior said as he reacted to the announcement of the final Brazilian line-up heading to the World Cup.

It has been 20 years since Brazil last won the World Cup, which is a long time for such an ambitious and powerful football nation. Perhaps it’s time, indeed.

Path of Brazil to the 2022 World Cup

It's no secret that South American qualification is relatively loyal to the participants. All it takes to qualify for the World Cup is to finish in the top 4 of the CONMEBOL qualifying cycle of ten teams. Brazil decided not to settle for the minimum target and not only qualified for the tournament, but also won it with confidence.

In 17 matches (one game against Argentina was never played), the Pentacampeons achieved 14 victories and three draws. The goal difference, 40-5, speaks for itself.

The most productive players were Neymar (8 goals) and Richarlison (6 goals). A total of 15 different players scored at least one goal, indicating the strength of the Brazilian squad.

What can we expect from the team in Qatar?

Brazil are definitely going to the tournament with one single goal in mind - to win. With all due respect to their group-stage rivals, neither Switzerland, Serbia nor Cameroon appear to be competing for the first place in Group G.

One of the Brazilians' main strengths is their extensive squad. Given the tightness of the calendar, rotating players and giving rest to the leaders will be very important. The coaching staff have the ability to do so without sacrificing quality. Needless to say, even when it comes to goalkeepers in Brazil, there is crazy competition between players who are consistently ranked among the top ten goalkeepers in the world.

The team is young (there are 16 World Cup debutants), but it is well-balanced. And there are enough experienced players in all the lines - Dani Alves, Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Casemiro, Fabinho, Neymar.

The bookmakers agree that Brazil have the best chance of taking the title. All that remains is to prove it at the stadiums of Qatar.
