Eliteserien Outright Odds for 2023/24

The Eliteserien is the top division of the Norwegian football championship. Despite its relatively low status (15th place in the UEFA rankings for the 2023/24 season), we can see significant interest among bettors in this tournament. This is largely due to the dates of the tournament: while top championships are on summer break, the tournament in Norway is in full swing.

As in other leagues, you can also bet on the winner of the upcoming season in Norway. Such betting options on the local championship are called Eliteserien winner odds 2023. They can be placed both before the start of the tournament and during its course. As of eight rounds before the end of the championship, the odds on the favourites are as follows:

Eliteserien Contenders Bet365 Odds
Bodø/Glimt 1.66
Viking 2.62
Tromsø IL 9.00
SK Brann 26.00
Molde 34.00
Lillestrøm 101.00
Sarpsborg 2501.00

The bookmakers see the best winning chances with the corresponding odds to win the Eliteserien in 2023 for two teams: Bodø/Glimt and Viking. With eight rounds left in the championship, both clubs have a lead over their other contenders of more than one victory.

Bodø/Glimt has slightly better chances in this rivalry. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, they have the most powerful squad in the league: according to Transfermarkt, the total value of all the team's players is 37 million euros (Rosenborg, the nearest pursuer is valued at 22 million euros). Secondly, it’s about their schedule: in the next eight matches, Bodø/Glimt will play three games against relegation contenders, while Viking will only have one such match.

Most Wins in the Eliteserien

The Eliteserien was founded in 1937 and, over this time, the tournament has changed its name several times. The current season is the 79th in a row, as the championship was not held in the early 1940s. Rosenborg is the most successful club in the history of the highest division of Norwegian football. The FC has won the title 26 times, with 12 of these wins dating to the 21st century.

Fredrikstad is the second-place club in terms of the number of titles (9). However, the last time the club won the trophy was way back in 1961. Now the team plays in OBOS-ligaen, the second strongest division in the country.

Molde is the current Norwegian football champion. In total, this FC has five championship victories, all of which were achieved after 2010. You can check out the rest of the trophy winners in the table below:

Team Number of the Eliteserien title wins
Rosenborg 26

About Eliteserien Betting

In the Norwegian football pyramid, the Eliteserien is the top division. At the start of the 2023 season, in the UEFA rankings, Norway held 16th place, allowing the top three clubs in the championship to qualify for European competitions (the winner went to the second qualifying round of the Champions League, the teams ranking second and third reached the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League). Another spot in the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League was awarded to the winner of the Norwegian Football Cup.

The current tournament format has been in use since 2009. There are 16 teams in the top division of Norway. The tournament is held according to the "spring-autumn" system: teams play against each other once at home and once away, resulting in a total of 30 rounds. The Eliteserien winner is determined by the number of points gained during the tournament. In case of a tie in points among multiple teams, the following criteria are used for comparison:

  • Goal difference in all matches;
  • Total goals scored in all matches;
  • Head-to-head points;
  • Goal difference in head-to-head matches;
  • Goal difference scored away in head-to-head matches.

At the end of the season, the two worst teams in the tournament are relegated and move to OBOS-ligaen. Their places are taken by FCs that finished first and second in the lower division. The team ranking 14th in the Eliteserien plays playoff matches against the winner of the OBOS-ligaen promotion playoff. The winner of the matchup gains the right to compete in the top league in the following season.

Individual awards are also given out based on the championship results. Here is the list of awards and their 2022 winners:

  • Player of the Year – Hugo Vetlesen (Bodø/Glimt);
  • Young Player of the Year – Sivert Mannsverk (Molde);
  • Manager of the Year – Erling Moe (Molde).

Eliteserien Markets on UKClubSport

Despite its modest status, Eliteserien betting is popular among punters. The main reason for this lies in the tournament format. While top leagues go on a summer break, the championship is in full swing in Norway. Therefore, in terms of the number of betting options, Eliteserien odds are almost no different from the Serie A or La Liga. Asian handicaps, totals, exact score, both teams to score (BTTS) and many other extra markets are available for most league matches. However, you will hardly find player props (goals, assists, cards, etc.) here.

Among Eliteserien outright odds, only Eliteserien winner odds are available. Top scorer and relegation betting options are unavailable at most legal bookmakers.

Factors to consider when betting on the Eliteserien

When watching Eliteserien matches, the first thing that stands out is the high level of scoring. In the 2023 season, on average, more than three goals are scored per match. Here, the Over betting options looks a bit more interesting compared to most top league games.

Another statistical trend of the current season is that the scoring level in the second halves of most matches is higher than in the opening 45 minutes. In total, in 22 rounds, teams scored 542 goals in rivals’ nets, with 56.1% of them coming in the second half. For comparison, in the top 5 leagues, this indicator fluctuates around 50-54%. That is why we recommend having a closer look at total betting options for the second half or " the second half to be productive than the first one" bets.

Here is another recommendation: prioritise home teams. While Eliteserien favourites perform well both at home and away, weaker teams are much better at gaining points in front of their own fans. In the 2022 season, Vålerenga (6th place) scored 65.9% of their points at home, Strømsgodset (12th place) – 69.6% of points, Kristiansund (14th place) – 73.9% of points. In the 2023 season, the trend has continued and the league teams average 63.5% of points in home meetings.
