About the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is the most anticipated sporting event of the year. Millions of fans around the world will be watching the tournament and many of them are planning to bet on the championship events. On this ClubSport page you will find World Cup betting odds from legal bookmakers.

For the first time ever, the World Cup 2022 will be played throughout the autumn and winter in the Middle East, Qatar. The opening match will take place on November 20, with the final match of the competition scheduled for December 18, 2022.

32 national teams will be competing for the world football trophy. It is the last World Cup to be held in this format - from 2026 onwards, 48 teams will compete in the final tournament. In Qatar, national teams are divided into eight groups of four. The top two teams in each group will qualify for a play-off that will start from the Round of 16. The top four teams of the tournament will be determined by the results of the knock-out rounds. The losers of the semi-finals will compete for the bronze medals in the third-place match, while the winners will play the deciding match at the National Stadium in Lusail on December 18.

Popular World Cup Betting Markets on ClubSport

Final Result

This is the easiest and most popular type of football betting. Choose between three options: Team 1 to win, a draw or Team 2 to win. This kind of bet is indicated in one of the three ways: by the symbols 1 X 2 (where 1 represents a victory of the first team, X - a draw, 2 - a victory of the second team) or by the words Home, Draw and Away or the name of the teams.

Normally this bet is settled at the end of the regular time of the match, unless otherwise stated in the terms and conditions. For example, if the two halves end in a 2-2 draw, the bet on a draw will win. It does not matter which team wins in extra time or after a penalty shootout.

Double Chance

Double Chance is a popular low-risk bet, suitable for new bettors. Unlike the Final Result bet, the Double Chance wins in two out of three cases. The most common bet is for the selected team to win or a draw. If your team doesn't lose, the bet will win. But it is possible to bet on the "No draw" market. The betting option will be displayed as 1X (Team 1 to win or a draw), 2X (Team 2 to win or a draw), 12 (No draw).

This is ideal for punters who prefer to reduce the risk. But you should remember that the odds and your potential winnings are also reduced.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals

Over/Under football betting markets allow punters to bet on whether there will be more or less than a certain number of goals in the game. There is no need to guess the exact number of goals scored, the correct score or the name of the winner. A bet on the Over/Under 2.5 goals is the dividing line in the average performance of football matches, which is why you will most often come across this figure. If no more than 2 goals are scored in a game, then Under 2.5 wins, if 3 or more goals are scored in the game, then Over 2.5 wins.

Handicap

Handicap is a bet on one of the teams to win with a conditional advantage. A handicap bet often involves the difference in goals scored. On the betting sites, a handicap bet is indicated by the name or number of the team with the handicap in brackets, e.g. 1 (-1.5) or 2 (+2.5). The number in brackets must be included in the final score. The first bet wins if team 1 wins by two goals: 3-1. 3-1.5=1.5, and the score after applying a handicap remains in favour of team 1: 1.5:1. The second bet 2 (+2.5) with the same score wins. Score including handicaps: 3:3.5.

The best bookmakers offer handicaps not only on goals. You can bet on corners, yellow cards, fouls and more. Handicap bets can be negative (on favourites) and positive (on underdogs).

Draw No Bet

Some bookmakers may offer a Draw no bet. This is a bet on a team to win, which is refunded in case of a draw. Sometimes this is a good compromise between risk and reward.

A regular bet on a win in case of a draw will lose. And a Double Chance will be settled as a win, but the odds are noticeably lower than with a Draw no bet.

Both Teams to Score

This is a bet on both sides of the selected match to score at least one goal each. There are only two possible outcomes, yes or no. If one of the opponents fails to score or the match ends in a 0-0 draw, the bet "Both teams to score - no" wins.

Half Time/Full Time

A combination bet is a bet where the bettor has to correctly indicate two outcomes at once: the result of the first half and the entire match. Bookmakers refer to such bets as 1 X 2 separated by a fraction. For example, X/1 is a draw in the first half + a win for the home team in the match, a 2/X bet would indicate a win for the second team in the first 45 minutes + a draw in the match.

How To Read World Cup Betting Odds

Understanding betting odds is essential for successful sports betting. We'll quickly teach you how to read betting odds: for World Cup betting they are the same as everywhere else. Bookmakers around the world use several ways to display odds - European, English, American, Hong Kong, Indonesian and Malaysian. In the Odds section at ClubSport we use decimal or European World Cup betting odds.

European odds is a figure with tenths and hundredths. To calculate your potential winnings you need to multiply your stake by the odds. For example, by placing a £10 bet at odds of 2.35 you will get a payout of £23.50 (£10 x 2.35) in case of win. The net winnings excluding the stake amount will be £13.50.

You can enable this type of odds on all decent betting sites if it is not displayed by default.

World Cup 2022 TOP 5 Favourites List

Long before the start of the World Cup, bookmakers have presented the betting markets on the future winner of the tournament. The top five includes two South American and three European teams. Let's find out more about them.

Brazil

The Brazilian team is a five-time World Cup winner and a major contender for the 2022 title. Tite’s team had a near perfect qualifying performance, winning 14 of the 17 matches played and ending three more on a tie. In the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage, they will face Switzerland, Serbia, and Cameroon. Bookmakers believe Brazil will have no problem reaching the play-offs, with odds of 1.05. The odds on Brazil winning the World Cup are around 5.50.

France

France are the reigning World Cup champions, and they won two trophies in total, in 1998 and 2018. In qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, Didier Deschamps' team lost points against inferior opponents (Bosnia and Herzegovina and Ukraine) at first, but made progress towards the end of the qualifying cycle and advanced to the final tournament. Denmark, Tunisia and Australia were drawn in the same group as France. According to experts, the French team is 96% likely to advance from the group, with odds of 6.50 to win the tournament.

England

The English team has only lifted the World Cup once in their history, back in 1966. This time, Gareth Southgate's team is one of the main contenders to win the major football tournament. England's World Cup qualifying went smoothly, with eight wins and two draws in ten games. The draw for the final tournament put the team in a group with the USA, Iran and Wales. Not the easiest of draws, but the bookmakers expect England to advance to the Round of 16 from the first place. The odds of them winning the whole tournament are around 6.50.

Spain

The Spanish team has won one trophy - at the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. Today, the Spaniards are back in the top 5 contenders for the title. Luis Enrique's team have won 6 of their 8 qualifying matches. Spain's opponents in the group stage will be Germany, Costa Rica and Japan. The team from the Pyrenees is considered one of the two favourites in the group, along with the Germans.
