Three-man NW200 assault for Team ILR

In News, North West 200, Roads

TEAM ILR is set for a three-pronged Paton campaign at this year’s FonaCab International North West 200 as Horst Saiger, Carl Phillips and James Chawke join the squad.

Ian Lougher’s camp will field a trio of Mark Coverdale’s Paton S1-R Supertwins in a bid to take victory this season.

Neither the team nor the bikes are strangers to success on the North Coast – last year, team rider Joey Thompson was embroiled in a pair of fierce battles with the likes of Jeremy McWilliams, James Cowton and Martin Jessopp. And while he missed out on victory, the then-19-year-old bagged two podiums aboard Italian bikes.

This year, Lougher and crew will be eyeing even more success with former Triangle Circuit Superstock lap record-holder Saiger, whose 2018 was highlighted by a rostrum finish in the Superbike Classic TT.

They also welcome Lightweight Manx Grand Prix winner James Chawke, who heads to the NW200 already experienced on a Paton after having notched up his MGP win on one back in August. The Irishman will also have an S1-R at his disposal as he makes his IOMTT debut this year.

Completing ILR’s three-rider assault is Phillips, who returns to the squad he worked alongside during his 2016 Pirelli National Superstock 600 campaign.
