Thompson rejoins Wilson Craig for Ulster SBK and roads assault

In News, Roads, Ulster SBK

JOEY Thompson has inked a deal to remain with Wilson Craig Racing as they look to take on both the roads and the Ulster SBK series in 2022.

After outings with the team at Aberdare Park and in the Quattro British Supersport Championship this year, the Yorkshireman will continue aboard the team’s Honda CBR600RR next season at select Irish road races as well as the North West 200, Isle of Man TT, Oliver’s Mount, Aberdare and – if it returns – the Ulster Grand Prix.

But it won’t just be a roads affair for next season, as Thompson and the team plan to contest the Ulster SBK’s Supersport championship, dominated this season by Superbike and 600 champ Alastair Seeley.

“I’ve been away from the scene for a while and at one stage I didn’t know if I was even going to be riding next year,” Thompson said. “So it’s a pleasure to have put pen to paper with the Wilson Craig Honda Team for 2022.

Thompson and the WCR squad earlier this year…

“They’re a team that I have always looked at as one of the top teams in the country, and I am certainly looking forward to next season.

“These last couple of seasons I didn’t enjoy racing, but the Wilson Craig Team is like a family environment and that has taken a lot of my shoulders to come back racing in a competitive team.”

Team Principal Darren Gilpin added: Joey has raced for us as a stand in rider for two events this year and he fitted in well to the team environment, and had a win and several podiums at Aberdare.

“He is still a young rider but has also had a lot of success at International level during his short career, in which he also has a professional approach to racing which is a requirement within our team.”
