Thompson calling time on road racing?

IN a shock announcement this evening, rising star Joey Thompson has revealed he may have to take time out of road racing without a competitive ride for the season.

The 20-year-old split from WH Racing last month, and as race season approaches, he has yet to strike a deal with another team

Thompson says he doesn’t want to put it on the line for mediocre results, and admitted he’d rather take time out than forge on without a package he can be happy with.

“I’m not sticking my neck out to finish mid pack anymore,” he told UK Clubsport. “It’s really disappointing but unless I can find something competitive to ride this season, I’d rather sit out.

“This is a very tough decision for me to make. I have had multiple International wins and podiums and lap records at road circuits but unfortunately it’s not meant to be.

“I want to do the Classic TT still, maybe I’ll do some club races as well. I just don’t want to push on at the big road races without a good squad behind me.”
