Southern 100: Dominant Senior win for Harrison

In News, Roads, Southern 100

DEAN Harrison powered to third on the all-time Southern 100 winners list after dominating the Island Aggregates Senior race.

After an early battle with Michael Dunlop, the Silicone Engineering Kawasaki rider took an easy victory as the Tyco BMW man retired, leaving Sam West and Jamie Coward to the rostrum spoils.

Harrison rocketed soff the line as he made the holeshot ahead of Dunlop and Michael Evans with West and Coward just behind.

But as the leaders hit Cross Four Ways, Dunlop was right on Harrison’s tail and they crossed the line separated by just under a second.

But Harrison was soon on his own as Dunlop slowed over School Hill Rise the next time around and as the Ballymoney rider soon retired, Evans was handed second while the reigning champ’s lead rocketed out to almost 10 seconds.

While Harrison had first all to his own, the battle raged just behind as Coward dropped to fifth and Ryan Kneen joined the podium fight as he sniffed at the heels of West and Evans.

Kneen moved ahead of West and began having a look at Evans, but it was disaster for Kneen moments later as he overshot Cross Four Ways  and tumbled down the order, leaving Evans, West and Coward alone in the podium scrap.

But as Harrison crossed the line for his fourth win of the week to make 22 in total, West bagged second some 11sec further back while Coward made a late dash to pip Evans for the final rostrum spot.
