UNSTOPPABLE Lee Johnston hoisted his second Gold Cup on the bounce as he beat Dean Harrison to the blue riband win.

The Ulsterman, who has scooped almost every 600 victory at the Mount this weekend, gave Ashcourt Racing its second straight trophy win as he pipped Dafabet Devitt’s Harrison to the top spot by two tenths of a second.

From pole, Johnston led from the off with Harrison on his tail and Dom Herbertson leading Joey Thompson, Jim Hind and Mike Norbury in the battle for third.

Harrison kept a watching brief on Johnston, but struggled to get within half a second as the laps wound down.

Meanwhile, Thompson took charge of the rostrum battle in third as Herbertson dropped out on lap three as the local ace led the train of Hind and Norbury all the way to the flag.

Back at the front on the penultimate lap Harrison was closing the gap, but fell just shy at the flag as Johnston took victory by 0.211sec.
