IAN Lougher stamped his authority as Oliver’s Mount’s most winning rider with a Lightweight victory over Dom Herbertson and Joey Thompson in today’s opener.
The Team ILR/Mark Coverdale Paton rider overhauled Brad Vicars early on before fending off the other two Supertwin protagonists and crossing the line
It was a tight scrap from the off as the entire front row, including pole-sitter Vicars, Dom Herbertson and Ian Lougher as well as second-row starter Joey Thompson shot into the lead as Vicars led the first lap.
But Paton-powered Lougher soon took over at the front as Vicars dropped down the order and eventually pulled in on the VRS Racing machine, leaving a three-way battle for victory as Lougher continued to lead while Herbertson and Thompson were nipping at the veteran’s heels.
The Welshman hung on, however, and snagged victory number 130-something to further cement his place as Scarborough’s most successful rider in history as Cowton Racing’s Herbertson held off Krämer-mounted Thompson to take second.
Julian Tillotson and Max Dixon completed the top five.
