DANIEL Boucher stole NG Road Racing’s Pre Injection 1300 crown by a mere two points after a hair-splitting battle with Jon Wright.
In just his first season of racing, the LBW rider snatched a podium finish to hold on by a thread and lift the crown.
Boucher qualified on top of the Pre Injection field in the combined Powerbikes session, while guest rider Ryan Strafford – Thundersport’s GP1 Classic champ – joined him on the fourth row of the grid, but Wright was forced to start on the back foot at the tail end of row six.
While Boucher got the jump and hit the front of the PI pack early, RS Racing’s Strafford and title contender Wright blasted ahead by lap two as Strafford looked to be in charge on the run to the flag.
But Wright caught up on the penultimate lap and knowing he needed a victory to keep his title hopes alive, the Controls and Safety R1 rider powered into the lead to take a class win.
His hopes were dashed, however, as he could do nothing to stop Boucher finishing third, which proved just enough to nip the championship with two points to spare and continue his streak of finishing every race on the podium.
“I really didn’t think we would do as well as we did in our first season,” Boucher told UK Clubsport. “It’s been amazing and we’ve made some good friends throughout the paddock.
“It was a bit of a challenge running in three classes, but I’m over the moon with all the results we’ve had – first in Pre Injection, second in the Newcomers championship and third in the Streetstock championship. I loved every minute of it and I can’t wait for next year now.
“I just want to thank NG Road Racing for our first race season and give a big thank you to all my sponsors for helping me out this year. And also a big thank you to my dad and his friend Ian for being there at every round to keep order.”n order
