NG champ Day bags Ducati Cup win at Silverstone

REIGNING NG Road Racing champion Josh Day has announced his return to the BSB paddock in style with a Ducati TriOptions Cup win over Rob Guiver.

The two front-runners went tit for tat this weekend on Silverstone’s National circuit and while the 2018 series champ Guiver led Saturday’s race from lights to flag, Day pounced at the 11th hour on Sunday in the last few corners on the final lap to secure victory on Sunday.

Stamping authority on his British paddock comeback, the former National Superstock 600 champ says while he didn’t anticipate a trip to the top step, there’s plenty more to come as he and Guiver head to Oulton in a fortnight on level pegging.

“I’m absolutely buzzing,” Day told UK Clubsport. “We wanted a top five, that was our aim and a podium would’ve been better, but I did not expect any wins or seconds.

“Saturday I kind of settled a little bit because I thought ‘it’s been a while since I’ve been on that podium’ and yesterday I thought ‘right I’m going to the end with this one’ and I knew I had a new front tyre and he didn’t so I knew I was quicker in a couple of places.

“I made it stick once, he got it back past me in back markers and then he had a little bit of a move at the end but we held on. We all know how quick Rob is on these Ducatis and all the other lads are mega quick as well, but this weekend through testing and that Rob has been the one to beat. He is a legend – it’s hard for a rider to say that about another rider, but he is.

“These guys are all on form so yeah, roll on the rest of the year and roll on Oulton Park, that’s my track, so fingers crossed it will all be good.”
