Latest Tottenham Transfer Newss

Tottenham Hotspur brought in Ange Postecoglou as their new manager this summer and are rebuilding their squad according to the new gaffer’s needs. The club has signed the likes of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Micky van de Ven who have all become instant starters. On the other hand, Spurs have lost leader and main goalscorer Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, while Harry Winks’ departure to Leicester City is nowhere near as impactful.
The transfer window shuts on September 1 and Spurs have limited time left to solve their squad issues – they still need a proper striker, for example – before jumping head first into the 2023/24 campaign.
List of Possible Tottenham Arrivals
The arrivals are not as prevalent among the Tottenham transfer news, as the Lilywhites already have plenty of outfield players. However, Richarlison has not been convincing in Kane’s vacant position, and it looks like Spurs remain interested in signing a forward.
Ansu Fati
Things change very quickly in the final days of the transfer market and Ansu Fati’s case is a perfect illustration of that. When news about his departure from Barcelona only broke, Tottenham were viewed as the frontrunners to sign him on loan. However, Ansu Fati now appears to be headed to Premier League rivals Brighton after their coach Roberto De Zerbi had a personal chat with the young Barcelona star.
Brennan Johnson
In their effort to replace Harry Kane, Spurs have been linked with a last-hour swoop for Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson. The Reds are not too keen on parting ways with a key player but could consider a move in the region of £50 million, it is claimed. Tottenham may face competition from other English clubs.
Due to Brennan Johnson’s versatility, his previous coaches have used him across various positions – striker, attacking midfielder, and on the wings. He would be a solid addition to Postecoglou’s squad but his starting prospects are unclear.
Johan Bakayoko
Not a striker at all – he plays mostly on the right wing – Johan Bakayoko is nevertheless a part of the Tottenham transfer news. The 20-year-old Dutchman has attracted the interest of various English clubs, including Liverpool and Newcastle United, and PSV are willing to listen to offers in the region of £25-30 million.
Johan Bakayoko has just qualified for Champions League football with PSV, though, so it may take a significant personal offer to see him leave Eindhoven. Last season, the 20-year-old was a key player for the Eredivisie side, registering nine goals and six assists in 39 matches.
List of Possible Tottenham Departures
Dominating the Tottenham transfer news are the departure links. Spurs currently exceed the Premier League squad limit of 25 so they must make some sales in the closing days of the transfer window.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joined Tottenham in 2020 from Southampton and was an undisputed starter in the three seasons prior to Postecoglou's arrival. However, Ange does not see the Danish midfielder in his system and the club has made him available for transfer. Atletico Madrid were long-admirers of Hojbjerg but a move never materialised. Manchester United have entered the picture now and have been granted permission to talk directly to the player.
Tanguy Ndombele
Tottenham’s record signing to this day, Tanguy Ndomble has become a headache for the Lilywhites after failing to adapt to the Premier League. The French midfielder spent the last two seasons on loans at Lyon and Napoli, and a similar fate awaits him in the 2023/24 season. After being crowned league champion with Gli Azzurri last season, Ndombele has recently been linked with a potential return to Serie A at either Genoa or Inter Milan.
Japhet Tanganga
Japhet Tanganga barely featured under Antonio Conte last season, making just seven appearances, and Ange Postecoglou does not count on him either. The 24-year-old was claimed in talks with Besiktas but the loan move fell through, and now he may be headed to Torino on similar terms. Tanganga has a contract with Spurs until 2025 and it is very likely that he’ll be back at the club next summer.
Davinson Sanchez
Prior to Ndombele, Davinson Sanchez was Tottenham's record signing as his arrival from Ajax cost the club £42 million. The Colombian international started well in the Premier League but the recent years have seen him demoted to a bench role.
Rennes had their initial £7.7 million bid rejected but may come back with an improved offer. Nottingham Forest is also among the potential destinations for Sanchez as he may enter the potential agreement for Brennan Johnson.
Eric Dier
A once vice-captain at Spurs, Eric Dier has been deemed a surplus to the requirements by the new coaching staff. The Lilywhites have offered the 29-year-old England international to Bayern Munich, where he would join ex-teammate Harry Kane. Thomas Tuchel is in search of a new defensive midfielder and centre-back, and Dier can cover both spots thanks to his versatility.
Eric Dier has entered the final year of his contract with Tottenham, so a loan deal, whatever the destination, is excluded.
Sergio Reguilon
Postecoglou prefers playing with inverted full-backs, and Sergio Reguilon who is best suited for running up and down the flanks is not exactly the perfect fit. The Spaniard has been sounded out by Manchester United and Fulham, but with the Red Devils close to completing a deal for Marc Cucurella, it appears there is only one way for Reguilon.
The 26-year-old spent the previous season on loan at Atletico Madrid, and with a contract until 2025, another short-term departure may follow.
Hugo Lloris
After Vicario’s arrival and him being stripped of his captaincy, it became clear that Tottenham would look to offload Hugo Lloris. The veteran has just one year left on his contract and Spurs are willing to let him leave for free. The 2018 World Cup winner has rejected the recent approach from Lazio but new suitors are likely to appear in the final days of the summer market. Lloris would depart the Lilywhites with 448 appearances behind his back.
