On Sunday, August 20, the Spanish Women’s national team will face off against the English Women’s national team in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Sydney, Australia. The kick-off is scheduled for 11:00 am UK time.

The importance of this match for the two sides is impossible to underestimate. Spain Women have never won an international title in their history, and their previous best record at the Women's World Cup was reaching the round of 16 at the previous edition. For the English, it is the first time that their senior national team makes an appearance in the World Cup final since their Mens’ team triumph way back in 1966. Neither Spain Women nor England Women have been crowned world champions before.

Considering the pressure, we expect an intense but cautious match at Stadium Australia this Sunday, something which will be visible in our Spain Women vs England Women tips and predictions.

Both teams to score? Yes

Spain Women have been one of the best scoring teams at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, netting 17 times in six matches so far. At the same time, La Roja occasionally showed its defensive weakness, conceding seven goals in total, including four from Japan during their group stages clash.

England Women, on the other had, are more about attack than defence: they scored 13 times at the tournament (but six of those goals came in a single game with China) and have conceded just three times in the six games so far.

All this is to say that Spain Women have enough firing power – with twice Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and national team top goalscorer Jenni Hermoso in the squad – to put at least one past the Lionesses, but they are also bound to commit defensive errors, which England Women will look to capitalise on through the likes of Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo.

Bet365 gives 2.10 odds on both teams ending up on the scoresheet.

Full time result – draw 3.00

Spain Women and England Women have Ballon d’Or holders and multiple Champions League winners in their squad, yet the upcoming game at Australia Stadium will be the highlight of their career for all players involved. Having the opportunity to win the first Women’s World Cup in your country’s history certainly must come with a lot of pressure, and that is why we do not expect the sides to approach the final with a reckless, all-or-nothing plan.

Both teams have played extra time at this tournament already, Spain Women did so in the quarters against Netherlands Women while England Women drew 0-0 with Nigeria Women in the round of 16.

With 3.00 odds from Bet365, this part of our Spain Women vs England Women tips look risky, but it is also the most logical outcome if we consider the nerves and the tensions which will be involved.

Over 2.5 cards – 2.25

Women’s football is less aggressive than men’s football, and that is usually reflected in the number of fouls the teams commit and the number of cards they receive during matches. So far at the tournament, Spain Women have received just three yellow cards, which is two less than England Women.

But if there is a time to commit an infraction, albeit at the risk of getting carded, it is in a final! This will be especially true towards the end of the game when the players have to foul the opposition in order to defend a lead or eliminate the chance of a dangerous counter when trying to come back from behind.

Bet365 gives 2.25 odds on there being three or more yellow cards in the match on Sunday. Again, this would be slightly atypical for a Women’s football match, but still within the logic of a final.

Nevertheless, always remember to gamble responsibly and treat our Spain Women vs England Women tips as a suggestion rather than a call to action.
