In the quarter finals of UEFA Europa League, an Italian derby will take place, as Milan hosts Roma in the first leg. The teams have already met twice this season, in the framework of Serie A, and in both cases Milan won (2-1, 3-1). In both instances, however, Daniele De Rossi was not on the bench - the first match was under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho and in the second instance Salvatore Foti was the main coach. Thus, De Rossi approaches his first clash against Milan as the coach of Roma.

Milan vs Roma Preview

Milan Preview

With 14 points to Inter and 6 points advantage over Juventus, Milan will possibly keep its second place up until the end of the Serie A season. At the same time, the team continues to win and perhaps if this stability was more persistent in the mid autumn or in the beginning of the new year, Milan could have been a serious contender for the championship. Stefano Pioli’s team currently maintains a 7-match win streak and recently easily crushed Lecce (3-0). With the rising voices over the potential sacking of Pioli, it does not seem that the Italian will be replaced, however, it may also depend on the success in the Europa League. Milan is among the main favourites for winning this draw, together with Bayer and Liverpool and both Pioli and the board confirmed that winning Europa League is a key goal for the remainder of the season.

Roma Preview

Daniele De Rossi is likely to be given a long-term contract as he continues to shine with Roma after his appointment. With Atalanta and Bologna losing points in the last round, Roma achieved an important win over Lazio, which allowed the team to approach the Champions League spots, which is now only 3 points away. The progress in the game is obvious, with Roma having only two defeats since De Rossi stepped in - against Inter and in the second match against Brighton, where everything was determined after the first leg. At the same time, Roma is having difficulties fighting on different grounds - the team’s resources are still heavily limited which becomes evident as the team attempts to dry the game after getting an advantage.

Betting Tips for Milan vs. Roma

AC Milan Total Corners Over 4.5

Milan had at least 5 corners in the last 8 consecutive matches. This is especially evident when the opponent attempts to play on counter attacks or simply is not able to impose a serious fight in the midfield. Such matches include a Serie A game against Empoli (11 corners) and the first match against Slavia (8 corners). Given that Roma gives the opponent many chances for corners, as it was even in 4-0 win against Brighton, where the Seagulls had 6 corners, Milan will likely put an emphasis on it. Unibet gives 1.50 for this Milan vs. Roma prediction.

Both Teams to Score

Both teams do not show stable defensive build ups and consistently concede from most of the teams in both Serie A and Europa League. In the last round, Milan conceded 3 from Slavia, while Roma conceded only once, but in the first match Brighton had plenty of chances. Moreover, in head to head matches, both teams are on the scoresheet for the eight consecutive clashes. Milan vs. Roma odds for this outcome, as defined by Unibet, are 1.86.

Total Yellow Cards Over 4.5

It is hard to expect a calm and emotionless match between these two teams no matter what competition they are participating in. Both Roma and Milan have one of the highest percentages in terms of matches when there were more than 4 yellow cards - 55% matches of Milan and 58% matches of Roma. Head to head matches also show that in the last 7 out of 8 instances, there were more than 4 yellow cards shown. For this Milan vs. Roma tip, Unibet gives 1.74.
