France and Republic of Ireland’s performances in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying have been very different so far. While Les Bleus top group B with four out of four wins, Ireland sit in the third spot with three losses and a single win against minnows Gibraltar behind their back. They are tied on points with the Netherlands, but the Dutch have a game in hand.

Certainly, the Boys in Green need the three points more but beating the 2022 World Cup finalists at their home is a nearly-impossible task. Thus, our France vs Republic of Ireland tips are not too optimistic for Stephen Kenny’s team, with the kick-off at Parc des Princes scheduled for Thursday, September 7, at 8:45 pm local time.

Kylian Mbappe to score anytime

At just 24 years old, Kylian Mbappe is already fifth on the list of France’s top goalscorer with 40 strikes in 70 games. Topping the list is Olivier Giroud with 54 goals but he’s already close to retirement. This gives Mbappe all the chances to eventually overtake Giroud, and the Paris Saint-Germain forward must have his eyes on that record already.

This can be supported by Mbappe’s recent performances for France, as he’s scored four goals in the four games he’s played in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying so far. He is also reaching the game against Republic of Ireland in top form, having recorded five goals in the last three appearances for PSG.

We are very likely to see Kylian Mbappe on the scoreline again on Thursday, with Bet365 giving 1.72 odds on it happening.

France to win to nil

When we say that France’s UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying campaign has been ideal, we really mean it – Didier Deschamps’s men have recorded four wins in four games, scoring nine goals and conceding none. This incredible run of form also included a 4-0 home win against the Netherlands.

With all due respect, we do not see Ireland putting an end to this streak. Thursday’s match will likely resemble the one in Dublin from a few months back when the Irish team gave away the ball, sat back and looked to hit Les Bleus on the counter (it ended in a 1-0 loss for them). Now, playing away from home, coach Kenny will likely be even more precautious in his approach despite needing the win.

So, instead of simply saying that the French will come out triumphant, we will go even further in our France vs Republic of Ireland tips and suggest that they’ll win the game to nil. Bet365’s 1.83 odds look very plausible.

Goal after 74:59

What happens in games when one team sits back and tries to defend at all cost while the other pushes and pushes for a whole 90 minutes is that the attacking side gets their goal in the end. Especially if the difference in class is as evident as the one between France and Republic of Ireland.

No matter how well the Irish organise their defence, France have enough talent in attack through the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele and others to eventually tire the defenders down and deliver the ball into the net.

We are not saying that the first goal will come late in the game, we are saying that there will be at least one late goal – be it France scoring against tired legs or Ireland finally finding a breakthrough, Bet365 gives 1.83 odds on this event.
