Everton vs Manchester City Preview

Manchester City skipped the previous Premier League round due to their involvement in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup. Back as world champions, the Citizens will take on Everton away on Wednesday, December 27. The kick-off at Goodison Park is scheduled for 8:15 pm local time.

The visitors had to travel to Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup which could result in some additional fatigue for Pep Guardiola’s men, an aspect to keep in mind in the Everton vs Manchester City prediction. At the same time, the Toffees have had a bloated calendar as well, and are set to play their fourth match in the space of 10 days.

Everton Preview

Everton currently sit 16th in the Premier League with 16 points after 18 matches. However, we have to keep in mind the 10-point deduction imposed by the Football Association, otherwise they would be sitting in 10th.

Sean Dyche’s men have a record of 22 scored and 23 conceded goals. In terms of recent form, Everton have recorded four wins and one loss in the last five Premier League matches, making them the most in-form team in England’s top division.

Another key factor in the Everton vs Manchester City tips is the list of absentees, with the hosts only missing Idrissa Guyeye and Dele Alli through injury.

Manchester City Preview

The defending champions, Manchester City, are currently fifth in the Premier League, having amassed 34 points in 17 matches. The Citizens are six points behind league-leaders Arsenal but have a game in hand.

In terms of numbers, Man City are having a decent season with 40 scored and 20 conceded goals. Guardiola’s men boast the best attack and third-best defence in England. Their recent form is rather disappointing, though, with one win, three draws and one loss in the last five league encounters.

Perhaps the visitors got some of their confidence back following the triumph at the FIFA Club World Cup, but most importantly, they will recover all of the injured players. One way or another, the Citizens are seen as the outright favourites in the Everton vs Manchester City odds.

Betting Tips Everton vs Manchester City

Manchester City win

Although we have praised the hosts and highlighted the visitors’ poor recent form above, our first Everton vs Manchester City prediction is a win for the Citizens. Bet365 give 1.53 odds on Pep Guardiola’s men getting the full points at Goodison Park.

Man City won their first ever FIFA Club World Cup, and this should serve as a morale boost for them. And perhaps more importantly, they are set to recover Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne on Wednesday, with the duo returning to training during their camp in Saudi Arabia.

Finally, Pep Guardiola will need to capitalise on the recent 1-1 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool. A win over Everton would narrow the gap between them and the other contenders in the Premier League title race. With four wins in the last five head-to-head matches with the Toffees, City know what it means to win against Everton.

Under 2.5 goals

While goals are undoubtedly the most entertaining part of football, we do not expect too many of them on Wednesday. The odds on under 2.5 goals stand at 2.05 on Bet365.

Man City have the best attack in the 2023/24 Premier League, that is undeniable, but we also have to keep in mind the ultra-defensive formation deployed by Sean Dyche at Everton. The numbers speak for themselves, as only Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have conceded fewer goals than the Toffees.

Against the defending champions, Everton will likely park the bus from the very first minute and will only rarely try their luck on the counter so as to not leave too many free zones behind. The visitors have enough individual brilliance to get past the low block at least once, but a high-scoring game is not what we will see at Goodison Park.

Both teams to score? No

Continuing with the same line of thought, a low-scoring match with just a few opportunities on both ends could easily result in one team failing to score. Bet365 give 1.95 odds on it to happen.

This prediction may not read too well as Manchester City have not kept a clean sheet in the Premier League since October 29 when they defeated Manchester United 3-0 on the road. Similarly, the Toffees have scored in all of their last five league matches.

However, on Wednesday, we will see one conservative playing style go against another, with the Citizens controlling the ball for long stretches of time and Everton happy to sit in a low block for the full 90 minutes.

Of course, our prediction is that the hosts will be the ones who don’t score, but the exact team does not matter here. If you want to combine it with our previous Everton vs Manchester City prediction, the odds on the Citizens winning to nil stand at 2.62 on Bet365.
