The North London derby is always an entertaining watch, and it will be even more so this weekend as both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been great at the start of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 2 pm local time on Sunday, September 24.

Both Arsenal and Tottenham have accumulated 13 points in five matches, recording four wins and one draw each. Spurs sit second as they have the better goal difference, while the Gunners sit fourth – Liverpool in-between them.

The match on Sunday will be important in the race for top four but we do not necessarily expect a cautious approach from the two teams, as you will see in our Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur tips.

Both teams to score? Yes

Arsenal and Tottenham are two very fun teams to watch as both Mikel Arteta and Ange Postecoglou want their sides to dominate possession, press high and create many scoring chances. This attack-minded approach has meant that both the Gunners and the Lillywhites have scored in each of their five games in the 2023/24 Premier League so far – nine and 13 goals respectively.

As far as defence goes, however, neither team has been flawless. Arsenal have conceded four goals and kept two clean sheets while Spurs have conceded five and kept two clean sheets as well. Considering the attack-first approach and the attacking talent on both teams (Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Heung-min Son to name a few), we expect that Arsenal as well as Tottenham will score this Sunday at the Emirates. Bet365 offers 1.53 odds on it happening.

Cristian Romero booked

Last term, Cristian Romero received nine yellow cards in 27 league games for Tottenham which is exactly one yellow card every three games. This season, the FIFA 2022 World Cup winner is yet to be booked despite having played five matches already. Bet365 offers 2.25 odds on Cristian Romero seeing his first yellow card of the season against Arsenal.

We have three reasons to believe that this will happen. First, Romero is an aggressive defender that tends to get booked, we’ve already confirmed that with numbers. Second, Arsenal’s playing style forces the opposition to commit bookable offences during games – in five league games, the Gunners earned nine yellow cards for their rivals. And finally, Tottenham are no strangers to fouling if the situation requires it, as they’ve seen 16 yellow cards this campaign so far.

Romero will have the likes of Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus facing him, so it is highly-expected that there will be a situation where he has to stop them even at the expense of getting booked.

Draw

Predicting the result in this type of match is tricky because it can really go both ways. However, we will go as far in our Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur tips as to say that the game on Emirates will end in a draw. Bet365 gives 4.20 odds on it happening.

The reasoning is that both teams have the means to hurt each other, but neither side has an obvious advantage over the other. Arsenal may have the better squad but they are also coming off a mid-week game against PSV in the Champions League. So, Spurs will likely be fresher – as they play only once a week after failing to qualify for European football – and they are also in terrific form at the moment.

Arsenal have four games in 14 days after the Tottenham clash, so Arteta’s men won’t be going all out on Sunday. For the visitors, a draw in the North London derby away from home may be a good result in itself.
