Aberdeen vs Rangers Preview

As the Scottish Premiership returns from break, the title race will resume with Rangers paying a visit to Aberdeen on Sunday, November 26. The match at Pittodrie Stadium will kick-off at noon local time.

The hosts are coming after a heavy 6-0 defeat to league leaders Celtic but their form is not entirely disastrous, as we will consider further in our Aberdeen vs Rangers prediction. The Gers, in the meantime, are on a five-match winning run. They will want to continue that spell with another three points as they are trying to catch up with bitter rivals Celtic.

Aberdeen Preview

The Dons’ last match prior to the break was the aforementioned 6-0 defeat to Celtic on the road. With Aberdeen set on to take the second team in the league table, Barry Robson needs to come up with something different on Sunday.

However, it is not like everything is broken at the Reds as they have recorded two wins, two losses and one draw in the last five matches. Among those wins was the 3-1 away victory over Rangers back in September.

In any case, Aberdeen currently sit eighth in the Scottish Premiership with 12 points after 11 matches. They have a record of 14 scored and 20 conceded goals, which will be a point of interest in our Aberdeen vs Rangers tips.

Rangers Preview

Rangers are arriving for the match at Pittodrie Stadium on the back of five straight wins. The Light Blues currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership with 27 points after 12 games, eight points behind Celtic but with a game in hand.

The Gers did not have the best start to the 2023/24 league campaign, and after three losses in the opening seven games, previous coach Michael Beale was sacked. Incidentally, the last loss came against Aberdeen.

With the arrival of Philippe Clement, it has been only wins for Rangers on the domestic stage. The Gers boast the second-best attack in the league with 26 goals scored and the best defence with just six goals allowed.

Betting Tips Aberdeen vs Rangers

Rangers win

Rangers have plenty of reasons to go all out against Aberdeen on Sunday. First of all, the Gers can still hope for a proper title race as the eight-point difference with Celtic is not insurmountable, especially since they have a game in hand.

Second, the match will be important on a personal level for the Light Blues and for their coach. After being defeated at home by Aberdeen, the players will be looking for revenge at Pittodrie Stadium this weekend. Clement will want to prove to the club that he was the right choice after the departure of Beale and beat that team that got the Englishman fired.

Considering the recent run of form and the difference in class between the two sides, the Aberdeen vs Rangers odds are expectedly in favour of the visitors. Bet365 give 1.50 odds on a win for the Gers.

Over 2.5 goals

Another thing the encounter on Sunday promises is loads of goals. Maybe not as many as in Aberdeen’s previous match, but Bet365’s 1.61 odds on over 2.5 goals do look good.

If we were to take the Dons’ last five league matches, there were three goals or more on three occasions. This is no surprise considering their disappointing performance at the back, as we mentioned earlier in our Aberdeen vs Rangers predictions.

As for the visitors, they saw three goals or more in four of their last five matches. Given their solid attack, we believe that they are capable of scoring more than a couple away against the Reds. And who knows, maybe Aberdeen will score too, like they have done in four of the last five head-to-head matches.

If you want to combine these two Aberdeen vs Rangers tips, Bet365 offers 2.20 odds on over 2.5 goals in the match and the visitors getting the win.

Both teams to receive 2+ cards? No

What we cannot see happening on Sunday is a scandalous game with a lot of cards on both sides. Bet365 offer 2.10 odds on both teams not receiving two or more cards (it is okay if one team is booked twice or more as long as the other team is not).

In general, neither Aberdeen nor Rangers are too card-happy. In their last five matches, the Reds were booked more than twice during the same game on two occasions. But even then their rivals did not match those numbers.

As for Rangers, their record is even more positive – they have seen more than two cards in a match only once since the start of the season. Since the Light Blues control the ball for the majority of the game, there is less incentive for them to foul the opponents. And despite playing away, we believe that the Gers will control the tempo against Aberdeen.
