JAMIE Coward and the Radcliffe Racing team have confirmed they will tackle the 2017 Steam Packet Southern 100 International Road Races.
Just days after the Castletown-based team announced it had signed the Yorkshireman on a two-year deal, the squad has revealed it will tackle it’s ‘home’ event next summer with its BMW S1000RR and Honda CBR600 machines.
“The Southern 100 is my home event and my favourite of the road racing year,” explained Team Principal Chris Lennon. “With Jamie in the seat we have a very good opportunity to take our first road race victory at ‘the friendly’ races.
“Jamie has had eight podium finishes in the last few years at the July meeting including a third and a second this year, so hopefully he will achieve the top step before too long.
“All being well, he will have a warm-up ride on the Billown Course at the Post-TT Road Races, which is sponsored by Radcliffe Butchers.”
Coward himself is also looking forward to having another stab at the Southern course in 2017.
“I am excited and looking forward to racing at the Southern 100 again in July and very happy to be on the Radcliffe Racing machines at their ‘home’ races,” he said.
“The Billown Course is one of my favourites and I enjoy the challenge it provides along with the friendly nature of the event.”
Welcoming the news of Coward’s entry, Race Secretary George Peach added: “The Club is looking forward to seeing Jamie racing again at the Southern 100 next year, and after his top-three places in the last couple of years, it can’t be long before he takes his maiden victory at the meeting.
“He is, of course, no stranger to receiving the winner’s laurel wreaths having won five races so far in the Pre-TT Classic Road Races – three last year and two in 2015.”
The 2017 Isle of Man Steam Packet Southern 100 International Road Races will take place Monday-Thursday July 10-13, 2017.
