CHRISTIAN Iddon drew first blood in the first race of the weekend at the Sunflower Trophy races at Bishopscourt today.
The Tyco BMW rider edged out this year’s National Superstock 1000 champion Richard Cooper, taking the chequered flag by 0.883sec.
But it was drama from the start as almost half the competitors either did not start or pulled out after the first lap in the difficult conditions with to standing water around the County Down circuit.
Back in third, Eunan McGlinchey bagged the final rostrum spot some 34 seconds behind the Buildbase Suzuki of Cooper.
In the afternoon’s other races, Michael Mackinnon, Jack Oliver and Paul Demaine were the top three in the Pre Injection race.
Michael MacKinnon also had a win in the Supersport/Superbike Cup race with Aaron Uprichard and Jonathon Watt second and third.
Cameron Dawson, who is also out aboard a KMR Supertwin this weekend, continued his winning form in the Supersport 300/Junior Cup/ Young Guns opener.
Lee Crawford and Scott Hardie stamped their authority on Bishopscourt as they dominated the opening Sidecar race some 21sec ahead of the competition with Peter O’Neil and Michael Kirkup second and third.
Veteran rider and former MotoGP man Jeremy McWilliams qualified quickest for tomorrow’s Supertwin race while Richard Kerr scored pole in the Supersport class.
The feature Sunflower Trophy Race and a full programme of 12 other races will complete the weekends racing on Saturday (26th October)
