PETER Founds and Jevan Walmsley will be eyeing victory this weekend as they get their ACU/FSRA British F2 Sidecar Championship defence underway at Oulton Park.
The 2017 season kicks-off as part of the NG Road Racing event at the Cheshire track for the first of two consecutive weekends of action for the leading series.
Following their dominant season last year, Founds and Walmsley will be looking to emulate their success of a year ago, when they took both wins in the opening round at Oulton.
The duo went on to take eight wins from ten starts over the course of the season, before lifting the title at the penultimate round at Croft.
But hot on their heels this year will be the Team ARC effort of Lee Crawford and Patrick Farrance who finished in the runner-up spot in 2016.
Just a few days ago, Crawford clinched the NEMCRC Mac Hobson trophy for the third time with passenger Tony Belsey at Croft, but this weekend he will be reunited with World Championship and TT-winning passenger Farrance, to mount a serious fight for the title this year.
Also out to grab a share of the silverware will be the father and son pairing of Steve and Matty Ramsden.
The pair became regular podium visitors last year, taking their first win at Anglesey in the summer and ended the year in third place.
New to the Super F2 Cup this season is ex British Formula 1 sidecar champion Sean Hegarty who will be joined by the talented James Neave.
They will be joined by Gary and Daryl Gibson, who make the step up this year after winning the F2 Cup last season after taking the lead in the second round.
Hoping to follow in their footsteps this year will be 10 new teams who are making the move up from the club racing ranks to the British championship, bringing the total of outfits competing in the championship within a championship to 15.
Reigning BMCRC champion Brian Ilaria looks to be a pre-season favourite, as he teams up with Jody James, while it’s worth keeping a close eye on reigning BEARS champions, father and son team Dean and Ben Dickinson.
The 2017 ACU/FSRA British F2 Sidecar Championship gets underway on Friday at Oulton Park with practice and qualifying ahead of racing on Saturday, and then heads straight to Cadwell Park for the second round over the Easter weekend with Auto 66.
