EMRA: Ramsden and Hardie lift Phil Dongworth Trophy

MATTY Ramsden and Scott Hardie secured the Phil Dongworth Trophy after sharing wins with the world champion Birchall boys at Mallory Park.

While the FIM Sidecar title holders destroyed the field in race one, they were missing for the second outfit scrap, leaving Ramsden and Hardie to secure a win and the aggregate victory.

Ben and Tom Birchall started from the back of the grid in the first race, but it didn’t take long for them to carve their way through the field and hit the front on lap three.

From there, the LCR Yamaha squad was unstoppable as they continued to nearly lap the field, stretching a 43.755s advantage at the chequered flag as DDM boys Brian Ilaria and Dave Ryder held off Michael Russell and Kenny Cole for the runner-up spot.

But with the Birchalls missing from race two, Ramsden and Hardie grabbed the holeshot and led from start to finish, over 15s clear of Russell and Cole, with Giles and Jen Stainton rounding out the podium.

And despite some confusion which initially resulted in a different silverware winner, Ramsden and Hardie’s aggregate result meant they lifted the Phil Dongworth trophy, Ramsden’s first after jumping from the chair to the cockpit this season.
