LADY racer Maria Costello MBE could be on for her best Isle of Man TT finish yet after securing a Paton S1-R for this year’s Lightweight road races.
The former Classic TT podium finisher will take on the Mountain Course, along with the North West 200 and the Ulster Grand Prix as part of her 2019 campaign, and is hoping the extra bike potential gives her a boost.
Costello is no stranger to the Paton marque, having secured a Classic TT podium alongside winner and team-mate John McGuinness in 2016.
But with the Mark Coverdale-supported machine beneath her, similar to the one Michael Dunlop shattered the Lightweight lap record on before taking victory this past season, she’s raring to go.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for me,” Costello said. “I tried this Paton last year and, I only did a few laps, but it’s on another level in performance and handling.
“This makes me very excited about the added potential this gives me at all the International road races, especially the TT.”
Coverdale, who ran the NW200 podium-winning Paton for Joey Thompson last year, feels the Lightweight bike is perfect fit for Costello, whose best modern TT finish came with 12th in the 2016 Supertwin scrap.
And he believes the TT Riders Association president is only on for more top results this year.
“I am delighted to be able to support Maria with sponsorship and lending her one of my Patons,” Coverdale added.
“Maria is an excellent road racer and is inspirational in her dedication to supporting road racing, educating youngsters and encouraging women to enter the sport.
“Her success with this brand has been seen before with her podium at the Classic TT. It’s a breed of bike that really suits her and I am really looking forward to seeing her achieve more successes this season.”
