LUKE Mossey held off Chrissy Rouse to take victory in the opening Pirelli National Superstock race of the weekend at Oulton Park today.

The Bournemouth Kawasaki ace took the lead from the reigning champ early on and fended off his final advances to bank another 25 points.

Tim Neave lined up on pole for Hawk Suzuki, but it was his team-mate Tom Oliver who eclipsed him to nab the holeshot before GR Motosport man Chrissy Rouse rocketed from seventh on the grid into the lead by the time the pack hit Island bend.

By lap two, Luke Mossey had found his way through on Oliver to take over second place as he immediately began hunting down Rouse.

Meanwhile just behind, Neave moved ahead of his team-mate as FHO Racing’s Alex Olsen soon followed him through to take over fourth place and as they began lap four, the leading quartet were almost nose to tail.

Mossey stuck his Bournemouth Kawasaki underneath defending champ Rouse at Old Hall but after the former BSB man had a moment at Cascades, Rouse slipped back ahead.

After regrouping, Mossey passed Rouse to retake the lead at Lodge as Neave and Olsen began to have a look at passing the Geordie. But it was all over for Neave at the end of lap six as he dumped his Suzuki at Lodge and crashed out into the gravel.

Behind the leading trio, there was another battle of three for fourth place as Honda Racing’s championship leader Tom Neave, Aprilia man Fraser Rogers, who started 17th on the grid, and title contender Billy McConnell kept things close.

Back at the front on the final lap, it was still Mossey leading Rouse – with Olsen dropping slightly off the back – but Rouse didn’t quite have enough to challenge and Mosey hung on to take the win by 0.278sec as Olsen finished second a similar distance behind.
