JACK Kennedy reclaimed the Quattro British Supersport championship lead with victory over his rival Ben Currie in today’s sprint race.

And as the Bournemouth Kawasaki rider celebrated victory to keep his title hopes alive, it was Charlie Nesbitt who was crowned GP2 champ on the Kovara Projects RS Racing Kalex.

From pole position, Scott Swann took advantage as he nabbed the holeshot ahead of Dynavolt Triumph stand-in Danny Webb and Kennedy, but by the time they hit Island bend the Irishman was already up into second place.

As Webb ran wide at Hizzy’s, Gearlink’s Ben Currie slotted into fourth before passing Jamie Van Sikkelerus and then Swann to move up into second, giving chase to Kennedy.

The Aussie caught up to his title rival by lap three as Appleyard Macadam’s Bradley Perie stuck a pass on Ashcourt man Lee Johnston to move into podium contention.

As the leading duo stretched three seconds clear of the fight for third with just three laps in the bag, Johnston, Perie and Truelove were in their own battle for bronze before GP2 front-runner Charlie Nesbitt joined them to make it four in the fight.

Truelove eventually got ahead of Johnston to take over third, but at the front it was all action with the laps winding down.

Currie looked to be losing touch with Kennedy, but with three laps remaining he regained lost ground and was straight back on the Dubliner’s tail.

But the Australian didn’t have enough in the final few laps and eventually rolled off, relinquishing the lead as Kennedy won to move to the top of the tables by a single point, as Truelove took third.

Back in sixth, with a dominant season behind him, Nesbitt took the GP2 category honours and championship title.
