CASEY O’Gorman put one hand on the Honda British Talent Cup title after a lights-to-flag victory in today’s wet opener.

Ahead of the final round of the season tomorrow, the Microlise Cresswell Racing rider survived a race of attrition as he powered past his rivals to move just a point clear at the top of the title tables.

O’Gorman stormed off as the lights went out this afternoon as he launched from pole position and immediately took the lead.

Within just a few laps, he was off into the distance as the battle for podium positions ensued. As City Lifting/RS Racing’s points runner-up Evan Belford slowly slipped down to 15th, it looked to be all down to series leader Carter Brown in the title fight.

Running in second with less than four laps to go, Brown came under fire from C&M Motors/Tooltec rider Jamie Lyons who shook up the championship battle as he levered Brown aside on lap nine of 12.

But Brown was back ahead of the Northern Irishman the very next time around in a crucial move for the title chase. It wasn’t over, however, as Kiwi Cormac Buchanan shook things up even further with two laps to go as he pulled back a three-second deficit to stick a pass on both Lyons and Brown, moving into second just behind team-mate O’Gorman.

Meanwhile some 16sec ahead of Buchanan at the flag, O’Gorman crossed the line to take a one point lead over Brown, who couldn’t quite get by Lyons to reclaim third.
