DUCATI TriOptions Cup champ Josh Day signed off a third title-winning season with victory in today’s red-flagged one-make finale.
Following a safety car and a number of heavy crashes with wet patches playing havoc, the Host-it.co.uk Racing rider took another win ahead of Chris Walker and John McGuinness as the race was flagged early for a number of downed riders.
After laying down the fastest lap in yesterday’s race one, Day lined up on pole for the final scrap of the season but it was 4t2 Racing’s Walker who made the holeshot as Day and fellow front-row man Neve slotting into the top three.
And with Dragon Racing’s David Jones and Blue Earth Construction rider John McGuinness tagging onto the back of roads man Neve, Walker and Day powered ahead as the champ took the lead at Paddock Hill on the second lap.
Day wasted no time putting tenths between he and yesterday’s race winner as he pulled out almost half a second by the end of lap two, just before disaster struck behind for Neve as he hit the deck on approach to Druids and crashed out of contention after slipping on the outside paint.
Just two laps later, Jones made exactly the same mistake and crashed out almost identically, forcing the safety car out as the front-runners bunched back up.
When action got back underway for a three-lap dash, Day, Walker, McGuinness and David Shoubridge were all bunched back up and it looked to be a final fight for victory, but Michael Tustin and Tom Stevens both went down on approach to Druids, forcing marshals to throw red flags and call the race early with the top four finishing in the same order.
