HAITH Honda duo Ben and Tom Birchall held off Lewis Blackstock and Paddy Rosney today to complete a clean sweep of the Molson Group British Sidecars.
The TT stars led from start to finish and while DHR/Express Tyre Services’ Blackstock and Rosney came close after steadily cutting the gap, no one else was within reach.
The Birchalls were again strongest off the line as Blackstock and Rosney tucked in behind, while a lightning launch for Phil Bell and Jimmy Connell put their Marin Motorsport/Bell Racing machine in third ahead of John Holden and Jason Pitt.
Just two laps in, however, Silicone Engineering/Barnes Racing’s Holden and Pitt sneaked through ahead of the Bell Racing boys, as the northerners then found themselves in the clutches of John’s son George Holden and Oscar Lawrence.
By half distance, however, it looked like the battle for top honours was heating up as Blackstock and Rosney reeled the Birchalls back in as they sat just 1.3sec in arrears and with four laps remaining, the gap was down to just 0.7sec.
Blackstock and Rosney were a mere half second down on the Birchalls as they began their final lap as they continued to take time out over the Woodlands section, but their charge came just a touch too late as the Birchalls held on to do the double with 0.990sec to spare
In a distant third, some 20sec further back, JH Racing boys Ben Holland and Tom Christie got the better of Holden and Pitt to take the final rostrum spot.
