BREAKING – Macau GP: Result now declared as Rutter wins

In Macau, News, Roads

MICHAEL Rutter has been declared the 2019 Suncity Macau Grand Prix winner after a controversial ruling and a one-lap race result.

Macau chiefs had previously announced that the race had been cancelled, with a spokesperson stating “there is not a result…there will be no podium.”

But in what now looks like an episode of the Benny Hill Show, they have declared a winner with Rutter taking his ninth Macau GP win.

When action stopped the first time, Peter Hickman held a seven-second lead and he had just started stretching a lead over Rutter after passing his MGM by Bathams team-mate before the second and final set of red flags went up.

Organisers went back to the result at the last completed lap, which Rutter led.

Rutter tweeted after:

Just heard that I’ve been given the win for today’s race. It’s a bit of a shame because Peter really deserved it. Sorry Peter.
