REIGNING MRO 600 champ Michael Mills scooped three wins and a nearly perfect points haul as he took the championship lead at Cadwell Park.

The 2019 title holder notched up a hat-trick as Stephen Draper’s win kept him from a clean sweep in a busy weekend of middleweight action.

After dominating qualifying to take pole position nearly 1.5sec ahead of Glenn Walsh, Draper and last year’s Rookie 600 champ turned Clubman front-runner Cedrich Bloch, Mills nabbed a quick getaway in race one and led the first lap.

But by lap two, Draper had found his way to the front and set about a furious pace, lapping nearly a second quicker than anyone else on track as he took the flag some seven seconds clear of trouble with Mills and Jordan Greenshields rounding out the podium.

Bloch led the Clubman charge after pipping Toby Shann to the line for sixth, while Jason Mariette was the best of the Rookie 600 runners in 12th overall.

In a curtailed four-lap dash in race two, Draper hit the front just a few corners in, but this time it was Mills who made the decisive pass early on and powered to victory 0.545sec ahead, with Harry Fowle back in third and Shann fourth for the Clubman win. And after Mariette failed to finish, it was Josh Humphries who nabbed the Rookie spoils.

It looked like a repeat battle in race three on Sunday as Draper led a three-rider train including Mills, Walsh and Dawid Krawiecki but after Mills hit the front, it was Walsh who took a stab before Mills hit straight back and held him off at the line to take another win by 0.615sec.

Krawiecki finished third a few seconds back, with Block scooping the Clubman win comfortably ahead of Alex Latham, who pipped Shann for second in class. And in the Rookie ranks, another winner emerged as Marc Batson beat Humphries by more than 10sec.

It was another early lead for Draper in the final race of the weekend, but once again Mills hit the front on lap two and while the latter built his lead to some 1.2sec, Draper reeled him in and only missed out on victory by less than a tenth of a second as Mills completed his hat-trick.

Walsh pipped Greenshields to third by just half a second, while Shann doubled up on Clubman victories and Batson bagged another Rookie win.
