Bemsee: Morgan at the Max as he powers to Donington hat-trick

In Bemsee, News

MAX Morgan stormed to a hat-trick of wins as he tackled Donington Park for the first time at the weekend.

As the British Motorcycle Racing Club (Bemsee) headed to the famous track for its fifth round of the year, Morgan and the rest of the L&W Contractors Rookie 600s were out for their fourth event of the season.

After taking his maiden win at Snetterton last month, Morgan was hoping for more of the same as he headed to Donington for the first time, having not even ridden it on a track day previously.

It was Morgan’s first time riding at Donington Park…

And aboard his MSS Performance Kawasaki ZX6R – his dad is some bloke called Nick who’s done a little bit of stuff with Superbikes and the TT and things in the past, apparently – he dominated the weekend from the moment he hit the track, topping the timesheets in free practice and qualifying.

As race one got underway, Morgan held the top spot in class as he led Michael Wheeldon, quickly establishing a lead of around a second which he’d extended to almost four as the flag fell, with Alex Barker on the Yamaha third.

Race two brought his second win of the weekend, as this time he saw off Barker to take the class win by a similar margin, also bagging 10th overall behind a pack of 1000s, as Michael Attwood brought his Moremoto Yamaha home third.

Proud Dad Nick and the team celebrate Max’s three wins…

And there was more to come, as he powered to the win in the final race of the round, this time by more than six seconds from Barker, as the pair of them grabbed top 10 overall spots, with Morgan eighth and Barker 10th. Third, this time, went the way of Yamaha pilot Nick Whitcher.

Morgan’s blistering pace earned him a fastest lap of 1.15:407, believed to be a new Rookie record.

And for Nick, it was a real proud dad moment: “Max hadn’t been to Donington not even on a track day so to end the weekend first in every practice and qualifying session and to come home with three out of three wins and a new Rookie 600 lap record was possibly the best Father’s Day present ever,” he said.
