Bemsee: Dominant Draper sweeps MRO 600s

In Bemsee, News

STEVEN Draper controlled Bemsee’s Supersport field at Cadwell Park this weekend with four wins from four as he shot forward in the Team Respro MRO 600 points chase.

But with a solid haul of points thanks to two podiums and a couple of missing series leaders, it was Michael Mills who took over at the front of the championship.

Draper was immediately out front from the word go, holding off Aaron Silvester, who returned to action for the first time since his big smash at Oulton Park in May, by just a few tenths to take pole position while Ben Wotton joined them on the front row.

While Draper got the best start, British Talent Cup rider Charlie Farrer launched off the second row to tuck in behind, trailing by just half a second with A51 Racing’s Mills not far behind.

Farrer tried to bridge the gap to the leader, but after a few laps Draper started pulling away and managed to stretch a 4.124s lead over Farrer at the chequered flag, with Silvester getting the better of Mills for third.

Clubman honours went to JJR Triumph/ RJS Services’ Wotton in sixth, just a hair ahead of points leader Philip Baker, while Andrew Smith rounded out the podium.

In race two it was Farrer who grabbed the early lead, but after just one lap Draper had him in his rear-view and was beginning to run away again.

A & J Racing’s Silvester passed Farrer for second on lap four but was too late to mount a serious charge on Draper and the Londoner crossed the line ahead of Silvester and Mills, the latter of whom pipped Farrer for third on the final lap. Baker bagged another Clubman win in fifth ahead of Wotton and Michael Stone.

On Sunday morning, Farrer snatched the lead again off the start and made hay to gap Draper by over half a second, but Draper levered him aside on lap three and was back in front before Silvester followed him through moments later and knocked Farrer back to third.

Silvester cut Draper’s lead to less than four tenths of a second, but still wasn’t able to move ahead and once again he had to settle for second ahead of Wotton, who held off Mills by 0.233s to take third and another Clubman win.

National Superstock 600 regular Farrer grabbed another holeshot in the final race of the day, leading Draper for the first four laps, but Draper sliced his way through and put the hammer down to complete his clean sweep as Farrer held off Silvester to take the runner-up spot.

Wotton sealed his Clubman hat-trick in eighth as Ashford Accident Repair Centre’s Baker took second ahead of rider Joe Holdsworth.
