Atkinson is ACU National 250GP Champ for second year running

PHIL Atkinson has reclaimed the ACU National 250GP Championship crown with a win at the final round of the NG Road Racing Club season at Thruxton this afternoon.

Atkinson arrived at the Hampshire track with a lead of 10 points over Dan Jackson, and it was all to play for today.

Jackson was the man on the move this morning when he set the fastest lap in qualifying to take pole. Ant Hodson lined up second on the grid with Atkinson third.

But in this afternoon’s race – which was cut to seven laps after an early red flag – it was Atkinson who took the spoils.

Jackson had taken the lead on the opening lap while Atkinson held third ahead of Hodson who had dropped back.

Atkinson moved up to second on the fourth lap and closed in on Jackson, making the move on the final lap to depose his rival, who had led the whole race.

He took the win by 0.42secs over Jackson, with Hodson just 0.54secs behind in third.

It was enough to seal the deal for the South African who has now taken back to back titles in the series.
