AINTREE racers look set to finally return to action next season as the club reveals a schedule of tentative race dates for 2022.
After a number of months with few updates, fans and riders were growing increasingly worried that next year may be yet another without two and three-wheeled action at the famous venue.
The track has been devoid of bike and sidecar racing since the tail end of 2018, ahead of permit complications which wrote off the entire 2019 season.
But club chiefs finally broke the silence today as they revealed their latest updates with a provisional calendar for racing in 2022 which would put them back in business after three and a half years out.
A statement from Aintree MRC directors Paul Buxton and John McEntee today reads:
There was a meeting with Jockey Club, Aintree Motorcycle Racing Club and Liverpool Motor Club regarding use the track in 2022. A few points of information:
We no long have a September meeting due to additional Horse Racing being run, and the Jockey club need more time to set the track up.
More talk about track repairs have start up again, and we are in the progress in getting new estimates.
The Jockey Club has agreed to put money in help repair the track.
For Friday night camping we are required to have Security on site provided by Jockey Club.
As a club we are in the progress of collecting in the Trophies. John and Jane should have been in touch or will be in touch soon. There is a lot of work going on in the background by all involved in the committee.
The Jockey Club has also allocated racing dates for the bike club in 2022 – provisionally set as follows:
Test Day – Wednesday 4 May 2022
Round 1 – Saturday 14 May 2022
Round 2 – Saturday 11 June 2022
