Wainwright back in action for GP1 Classic campaign

In News, Thundersport GB

NICK Wainwright is headed back to Thundersport after a year out, and admits he’s eyeing the top spot in the GP1 Classic ranks this season despite his absence.

The 2016 Golden Era Supersport runner-up says he’s been working tirelessly behind the scenes to put everything in place for 2018, but is ready to launch an assault on the recently-formed big bike class.

Thundersport’s GP1 Classic category was launched in 2017 with a goal to get early 1000cc of the late ’90s and early ’00s back on track. Wainwright and his Paintzfiction Racing squad are preparing a pre-injection Yamaha R1 which they believe will do the job more than adequately.

“The aim is to be at the sharp end once again,” he told UK Clubsport. “IĀ  believe that with the GP1 Classic bikes, the prep and set up is going to be key to success as well as having a competitive bike.”

“Mark at Paintzfiction Racing has built just that with well-renowned engine builder John Warrington and Chris Pool on board once again.”
