Supersport 300s set for Manx Grand Prix debut

SUPERSPORT 300cc machinery is set for a maiden appearance in road racing as the Manx Grand Prix reveals a new addition to the Lightweight race.

As UK Clubsport predicted nearly a fortnight ago, MGP organisers have carved out a place for the likes of the Yamaha R3, KTM RC390, Honda CBR500R and Kawasaki Ninja 300 alongside the existing Lightweight machinery at the Festival of Motorcycling.

Manx Motor Cycle Club bosses believe the new category could help introduce newcomers to the Mountain Course without the added pressure of high speeds.

The Ultra-Lightweight race, which is also set to include 125cc two-stroke and Moto3 machines, will run over three laps in conjunction with the four-lap Lightweight races on Wednesday and Friday, 29 and 31 August.

Organisers have waived the restriction on previous Manx Grand Prix winners participating as they make a first-year evaluation. Regulations will be available soon, and the club reminds participants that all races are still subject to minimum entry numbers being met.
