Southern 100: Dave’s Debrief – Brook reports back from day one at Billown

SOUTHERN 100 rookie Dave Brook is enjoying his first taste of roads action but says he still has a lot to learn.

The Thundersport GB regular made his Billown Course debut last night aboard his Team Arkoni BMW and admits he stayed on the safe side for his first outing.

“I enjoyed it but I’m just wobbling around at the minute,” he said. “The whole concept takes a bit getting used to – it’s not the speed, it’s the concept of speed with completely blind corners, so you can’t necessarily see the exit when you should be getting on the gas.

“So I’ve just been finding my way around and making sure I know where I need to be on track and when I should be doing certain things. Learning is the main thing, and I’ve got a lot to learn.

“We probably played it a bit safe last night but that’s the way I wanted it to be. I felt I was way off, so we’ve been changing the gearing on the bike today to get it back to what I’m used to on the short circuits for this evening.

“It’s certainly a real buzz, even just the idea of riding on a public road and getting to use both sides. There’s a lot to think about.

“Tonight I’m looking forward to getting another run out and I’m looking forward to soaking it all up. It’s a fantastic experience so far and I’m loving it.”
