Kennaugh clinches ACU 50cc Freetech title

SOUTH African Hudson Kennaugh has clinched the ACU 50cc Freetech championship with one round remaining after a dominant weekend at Lydden Hill.

Running as part of the British Historic Racing programme, the diminutive displacement series runners brought out their big guns in an effort to rake in points at the penultimate round this past Saturday and Sunday.

Former National Superstock champion Kennaugh came equipped with the same 50cc machine he rode as a bairn in his native South Africa, albeit spruced up to Freetech standards.

Despite just missing out on wins to 50cc powerhouse Darren Eaton during the season opening round at Tonfanau, he clawed his way back with podiums at Darley Moor and Aberdare Park, then victory this past weekend at Lydden Hill to secure the title.

The ACU-sanctioned championship will once again support British Historic Racing and the VMCC at Cadwell Park next month.
