Ingram back in business for Thundersport GP1 assault

In News, Thundersport GB

JOHN Ingram is gearing up for a return to full-time club racing as he heads back to Thundersport GB with one aim – to reclaim the GP1 title.

With one championship already under his belt from the 2013 season, The Ram is confident he has all the tools he needs to lock horns with the competition and take home another trophy.

Although he took a sabbatical from racing full-time in 2017 to concentrate on a few mentoring opportunities with young racers, Ingram dropped in to a couple rounds at his old stomping ground, Mallory Park, and proved he hadn’t lost a step.

He made a clean sweep at EMRA’s sixth round and even beat reigning two-time GP1 champ Lee Williams to two race wins during Thundersport’s Mallory Park weekend.

Ingram will once again team up with Des Fleetwood to campaign his immaculately-prepared BMW S1000RR weapons. Intent on picking up where he left off, the former Race of the Year winner says he has one primary goal for the season: to take the championship back to Wigan.

“We’re going out there for the win,” he told UK Clubsport. “I did that championship in 2013 and won it and I’ve done at least a couple meetings at Thundersport every year just to keep my hand in.

“This year we’re going to be back concentrating on it with the Fleetwood BMW with support from HMT/Dunlop Tyres.

“I always rode on Dunlops at the TT and all, and I thought it would be good to try and win the [GP1] championship off Michelin. We’ve got support from HMT and Dunlop now and they’re going to give us a technician to work with us at the track so that’ll be great.

“We’re not there to play at it, we need to get a consistent run of results which is what will win it. You’ve got to look at the bigger picture when you’re going for a championship.
