Former champ Parker back to battle for Bemsee Powerbike honours

COLIN Parker will mount a challenge to reclaim the BMCRC Powerbike crown this season, after injury wrecked his hopes of a double crown last year.

The 2016 champion was left sidelined after sustaining an ankle injury last summer, which he made worse in a crash at Oulton Park early in August.

It heralded the end of his title defence, and he was powerless to stop Joe Morphett scampering off with the championship.

Parker wouldn’t mind getting his hands on that number one plate again…

But after following doctors’ orders and resting the injury, Parker is eyeing the title once again in 2018.

With Bemsee’s season heralding the start of this year’s club racing action when it roars into action at Brands Hatch on March 10, Parker feels like he’s in a good place.

Having just returned home from a pre-season test at Cartagena, Spain, he’s now hoping he can have a similar start to the season as last year, when he took all three wins in the opening round.

“I’ve been lucky enough to secure the backing of Global Robots once again, which has enabled me to run the full season,” he told UK Clubsport.

He will be looking to quickly get back to his winning ways, as seen here in 2016…

“I had a great test in Cartagena last week. We were out there for four days and the aim was to use the time to build up the strength in the ankle that I broke last year, as well test the bike and get my bike fitness back up.

“Everything went well. My ankle felt great, I felt great and so did the bikes. I’m raring to go now and I can’t wait for next week.

“The newly built R1 is feeling really strong and yes, the title is my aim. I just need to stay consistent and hope that I can get a bit of luck on my side this year.”
