JOSH Day could play a pivotal role in the outcome of the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship this weekend after vowing to help team-mate Danny Buchan if needed.
NG Road Racing’s most dominant force is riding the Morello Racing Kawasaki previously piloted by Fraser Rogers, at Brands Hatch.
Day was offered the ride after a dazzling display on the Morello machine at NG’s Pembrey round last month, and has joined the team for the final round.
Team-mate to Buchan, who leads the championship by 15 points over Richard Cooper, Day is aware that helping Buchan win the title is going to be a factor in Sunday’s race.
“If I am in a position to help the team with the championship then I will be doing so,” he told UK Clubsport. “I feel very privileged to be given another go on the bike and hope I can repay the favour.
“I am well excited to get out there and the weather looks dry all weekend and it would be good to have similar conditions so I can learn one thing at a time. The team and the bike are proven and I feel I’ve been riding pretty well this year.”
Naturally, to be able to help Buchan, Day needs to be running up at the sharp end, but this is something he certainly has in his sights.
A former Superstock 600 champion and multiple NG championship winner, Day has had various dabbles in and out of the series over the years, and is confident that with a strong and proven package underneath him, he has a good chance of mixing it in the top 10.
“I’m definitely looking to be in the top 10 and am aiming for a top five,” he revealed. “I know this is a big ask in the championship and people would say that it’s big headed, but I am going in with the attitude that it’s a great opportunity and I will be trying my hardest.
“All the guys have had three races there this year, but the team has the data from their riders so I plan to spend a lot of time reading some squiggly lines on a laptop to set me off in the right direction.”
