JAMIE Coward has been thrown a lifeline for the 2018 season as he signs for German road racing squad Penz13 BMW Motorrad.
The news comes just weeks after the Yorkshireman’s previous team, Radcliffe’s Racing, announced its departure from the paddock this year.
After his best big bike finish yet in the 2017 RL360 Quantum Superstock TT, where he bagged ninth, as well as podiums at the Classic TT and breaking records on the Billown Course, Coward says he’s raring to go.
He joins Derek Sheils and Danny Webb at Penz13 for team’s 2018 roads campaign, which kicks off in the Czech Republic at the Horice Road Races and culminates at the Macau Grand Prix in November, where Coward will make his debut.
“After a great season with Radcliffe Racing I felt confident that we could built on that for 2018, but unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be,” he said. “So I am really pleased that the Penz13 team called.
“With their experience in international road racing as well as in the endurance World Championship I’m confident that they will provide me with the machinery to build on my experience and times to date.
“I believe that 130mph+ is a realistic target and with Derek and Danny in the team we will complement each other well. I am really looking forward to testing the bikes in February when we hit the track in Cartagena for the first time.”
