Chapmans gear up for multi-club assault

FATHER and son duo James and Blake Chapman are preparing for a busy 2018 as they look set to take on both NG and EMRA campaigns.

While Blake looks to build on his third place finish in the ACU 125GP National Championship in 2017, his dad is gearing up for a whole new challenge.

Reigning Formula 125 champ James Chapman ditches his Aprilia RS125 for a Suzuki GSXR400 this year as he moves up to NGRRC’s F400 class…

Last year’s NGRRC Formula 125 champion James is putting aside his trusty Aprilia RS125 to make way for a Suzuki GSXR400, which he confesses still needs to be buttoned up before he begins his challenge in the Formula 400 series.

The elder Chapman will be using the first few races of the season to dial in the setup of the bike before he looks to work his way toward the top 10 in mid season. But with outgoing champion Tom Harrison, who also won the Newcomer’s crown, off to race minibikes in 2018, the title is up in the air.

Blake, on the other hand, is doubling down on duties aboard his RS125 Honda as he continues his hunt for a 125 GP title with NG while adding action with EMRA at Mallory Park to the mix.

The Devon native admits he might be optimistic as he seeks a top three overall finish with both clubs at the end of the season, but says he’s relishing the challenges he and his old man have set out for themselves.

Blake’s EMRA campaign kicks off 2018 next weekend at Mallory Park, while NG begins it 2018 season at Brands Hatch in just over a fortnight. Riders interested in earning their ACU license still have time to sign up, with a CTC/BRA course due to run at Pembrey Circuit next weekend.
